Account and data deletion
The Midnight Alchemist is operated by 3Men Pty Ltd (ABN 83 678 873 839). You can delete your account in the app, or on this page if you cannot sign in. This page explains what deletion erases, what we keep and why, and what happens with the outside services we use.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription. Cancel it first in Google Play: open Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions. Deleting the app from your phone does not delete your account either.
Delete inside the app
- Open Settings.
- Choose Delete My Account and All Data.
- Type the email address on your account, choose Delete My Account, then confirm with Delete Everything.
Deletion starts as soon as you confirm and cannot be undone.
Delete without the app
If you can no longer sign in, enter the email address on your account. If it belongs to an account, we send a confirmation link and a fallback code. The link works for 15 minutes. If you ask for more than one email, only the most recent one works. On the confirmation page you type your email address and DELETE MY ACCOUNT, and the page shows the deletion as it runs.
Never email us your password, payment card details, voice recordings or sign-in codes. We will not ask for them.
Prefer to write to us, or can no longer reach that inbox? Email support@themidnightalchemist.com and tell us you need another way to confirm the account is yours.
What deletion erases
Deletion removes your data from our database and file storage:
- your account and sign-in details, and your profile, including your name and photo;
- your Identity Audit and onboarding answers;
- every Journal entry, its summary, and any recording saved with it;
- your Rituals, daily cards and reflection history, and any Ritual recordings;
- your consent choices, usage events, content reports and copies of your data you asked us to prepare;
- the app’s record of your subscription.
Your sign-in account is then deleted, so you can no longer sign in.
Outside services
- Voice provider. If you created a saved voice in an earlier version, deleting your account also deletes it from our voice provider. That request is queued and retried until the provider confirms it.
- RevenueCat, which runs in-app purchases for us. We ask it to delete its record of you, and that request is queued and retried in the same way.
- Google Play keeps its own record of your purchases under Google’s terms. Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription.
- OpenAI receives your text, and spoken entries for transcription, to write your Rituals and summaries. Account deletion does not send a deletion request to OpenAI. See the Privacy Policy for how we use it.
What we keep, and why
- A deletion record showing that the account was deleted, when, and whether each outside service has confirmed its part. It holds none of your Journal, Ritual or profile content. We keep it to show the deletion happened.
- Proof of what you agreed to: for each notice you accepted, its version, a fingerprint of its text, the time, and the app version and language. It contains no name, email address, Journal or Ritual content. It is kept for up to 6 years, then deleted.
- A billing record of each subscription payment or change (product, store, dates, price and currency). Your account is replaced by a one-way code, and no name or email address is kept. It is kept for 7 years for accounting, then deleted.
- The ID an outside service needs to finish a deletion, such as the voice provider’s ID for a saved voice. It is removed 30 days after the service confirms the deletion.
- Staff action records. If our staff took an action on your account in our admin console, the record of that action is kept for security.
Backups
Our database and stored files are also copied into encrypted backups. A backup is not edited to remove one account. Each backup copy is locked for 90 days and is set to be deleted after that, so data from a deleted account can stay in a backup for about three months after deletion.
Files on your phone
Ritual audio you saved to your phone in an earlier version, and copies of your data you downloaded, are on your device, outside our systems. Deletion removes our copies; you delete files on your phone yourself.
Delete only a saved voice
If you created a saved voice in an earlier version, you can delete just the voice and keep your account. Open Settings → Saved Voice & Audio Privacy and choose Delete My Saved Voice, or open Settings → Privacy and Your Data and choose Withdraw voice consent. This deletes your saved voice and the Ritual audio made with it, and asks our voice provider to delete its copy. If the provider does not confirm straight away, the request is queued and retried. Your account and Journal stay.
Turning off personal reflections is not deletion
In Settings → Privacy and Your Data you can turn off personal reflections. The app then stops sending what you write or say for AI processing and moves to limited mode. This does not delete your account. To erase your data, delete your account as described above.
Timing and help
Deletion in the app runs as soon as you confirm. Deletion from this page runs when you confirm on the confirmation page. Confirmation from the voice provider and RevenueCat can come later, because those requests are retried until the service answers.
